- 2 1/4 cups Warm water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 5 tsp. yeast
- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 tbsp shortening
- 2 eggs beaten
- 8 cups flour I use all purpose
Instructions
- Begin by melting your shortening in a saucepan over medium high heat. Once it is melted take off of the heat to cool.
- In a large bowl, add water, sugar, and yeast. Whisk together. Then allow to rest and bloom for about 10 minutes.
- While that is resting, in another bowl add flour and salt and stir together until combined.
- Add 1/2 of the flour mixture into the yeast mixture, stir, then add shortening and eggs and mixture together.
- Add one cup of flour at a time from this point on until a dough is formed. Knead for about 5 minutes or until smooth.
- This is where you can put the bowl in the refrigerator for about a week if needed. Add plastic wrap or beeswax wrap to the top of your bowl and place in the frig.
- To continue and make rolls the same day, Take the dough and make them into your rolls.
- Allow to rise until double in size. Usually 1 to 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Then bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown.
